WW1 Gorham Fac-Simile 18-Pounder Artillery Shell Cocktail Shaker w Poker Caddy
World War 1 era Fac-Simile eighteen pounder shrapnel artillery shell cocktail shaker set attributed to the Gorham Manufacturing Company of Providence, Rhode Island. This has a poker caddy that fits down smoothly inside the brass shell casing. These usually have a drinking glass caddy or are empty. Poker chips (red, blue and white) and card decks (owl and black widow motifs w/date of 1908) appear to be original to the piece as they fit perfectly in the caddy. Decks are complete (52 cards in each deck).
Poker chips are either clay or bakelite - see pictures. The 18 pounder was Britain's main artillery piece in the first World War and this is an exact representation of one, right down to the markings on the "fuze" (ice strainer). The projectile is the shaker and the fuse is the ice strainer spout. The small brass cap fits snugly in the spout. The set has not been polished giving this the look of a real 100 year-old artillery shell.
The brass shell has no dents. The shaker (HE shell) has several dents on one side, while the other side has no dents. Extremely rare, possibly one of a kind item. Brass shell weights 3 pounds, total weight is over 6 pounds. Total height assembled is about 23 inches.
