Vintage Colonial Poker Chip Set Continental Dollar Higley Oak Tree Shilling
ALPSCO (Adult Leisure Products Corporation). Extremely Rare vintage Colonial Coin Poker Set. The Chips and ornate Storage Box seem to be either Bakelite/Glasbake or some similar vintage material. The set includes American Revolution themed Colonial Chips: 50 (large grey chips) commemorates 1776 Continental Dollars; 50 (medium green chips) commemorates 1737 Higley Copper Connecticut 3 Hammers; and 100 (small yellow chips) commemorates Massachusetts New England 1652 Oak Tree Shilling. The chip set is complete with all 200 chips represented in the correct ratio, conforming with a standard 200 chip poker set. All housed in a very ornate and decorated storage box; approximately 8 1/2" square by 2 1/2" tall. Box is in wonderful condition with no chips or breaks. Slide channels for the lid in great condition. Lid with no issues and closes up the set very nicely. The designs on each of the four sides are remarkable.
The original tray insert is included (rare) and is made of a normal plastic. It has some cracks and broken seams, but holds the chips just fine and fits snugly into the storage box (see pics). Deck of cards not included. Overall the set is in wonderful condition. Not familiar with the material myself, so I haven't tried to clean it.
But even as is, it has such wonderful patina. The chips may appear to be worn in the photos, but that is just the way they were made; being copied from real coins and showing that colonial originality. Would be neat to see if they could be matched to the original coins with provenance. Smoke and Pet free household.
