Vintage Set of Poker Chips in a Walnut Case. Hinges and lock are brass; the lock works well and the original key is included. The 409 clay chips are red, blue, ivory and gold, and each has a white letter H in the center.
The square wooden carousel racks feature four divisions that hold stacked chips. Atop each carousel is a bright, translucent, garnet-colored Catalin knob. The wooden box has 4 rectangular sections for holding playing cards and/or for holding score keeping pencil and paper anything necessary to create a great poker game. The exterior lid of the chest features a brass plate with the initials KHH.The plate, however, may be removed or replaced with a plate bearing the new owners initials. The H on the chips could represent a college (Harvard, for example), or the first initial of the owner's first or last name, or the first initial of a nickname or one can ignore the H altogether. A revival in poker chip collecting has skyrocketed in the last fifteen years. Sought after poker chips are those made from bone, clay, wood, mother-of-pearl, and various types of plastics. In the past, uniquely designed chips were a way to prevent chip counterfeiting. Today, some of the most valuable chips are engraved, hand carved, and/or monogrammed.
